Nestled in a dynamic site
The architectural composition along the banks of the Douro River undergoes rapid transformations as external developments assert their presence without regard for contextual integration. Within this dynamic context, the proposed site stands as an untouched enclave, embodying its distinct character.
Its irregular configuration, shaped by the river's gentle curve and the angularity of the neighboring structures, is further accentuated by an earth embankment.

Perched atop this embankment lies a tranquil district, characterized by narrow cobblestone streets and venerable edifices.
Volumes of Program
The present design envisions a "house" of cultural significance, wherein gallery spaces manifest as prominent entities flanking the Douro River. Concurrently, an integral historical archive and library are thoughtfully embedded within the earthy terrain at the rear of the site. Notably, the vantage points from all angles directed towards the river bestow an opportunity for culture and art to assert their presence upon the cityscape, functioning at both an urban and human scale. The design endeavors to honor the nation's rich historical narrative by incorporating elements of the rugged granite walls emblematic of the surrounding neighborhood.
